Bactericidal Fluorescence Excited by X-rays
نویسنده
چکیده
X-ray fluorescence has been pointed out as a mechanism offering exceptional possibilities in the development of physicochemical therapy. Experiments are given which demonstrate that under these conditions the x-rays may have a strong bactericidal effect. The x-rays alone have a partial bactericidal action on water suspensions of typhoid bacilli.

Total Reflection X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry for Characterization of Nuclear Materials
Total reflection X-Ray Fluorescence (TXRF) is a comparatively new technique of material characterization and trace element analysis. It is an advanced variant of Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) and is based on the principle of total reflection of X-rays when these radiations fall on a flat smooth surface at a grazing angle less than the critical angle of the sample support. The cri...
متن کاملDetermination of hemolysis, osmotic fragility and fluorescence anisotropy on irradiated red blood cells as a function of kV of medical diagnostic X-rays
Background: People occasionally undergo medical diagnostic X-ray examinations and expose their red blood cells to radiation. Radiation that is generated from medical diagnostic X-ray machines is widely used in medical diagnoses. One of the important parameters is kilo-voltage (kV) that is applied across the X-ray tube in medical diagnostic X-ray machines. Kilo-voltage influences the radiation d...
متن کاملEnhanced melanin fluorescence by stepwise three-photon excitation.
The fluorescence of eumelanin (from Sepia officinalis and black human hair) was activated and enhanced by almost three orders of magnitude by exposure to near-infrared radiation. No activation or enhanced emission was observed when the samples were heated up to 100°C. The near-infrared irradiation caused obvious changes to the eumelanin and could be seen by fluorescence and bright field imaging...

In the fluorescence detection of ultra high energy (& 10 eV) cosmic rays, the number of emitted fluorescence photons is assumed to be proportional to the energy deposited in air by shower particles. We have performed measurements of the fluorescence yield in atmospheric gases excited by electrons over energies ranging from keV to hundreds of MeV in several accelerators. We found that within the...

The fluorescence detection of ultra high energy cosmic rays requires a detailed knowledge of the fluorescence light emission from nitrogen molecules over a wide range of atmospheric parameters, corresponding to altitudes typical of the cosmic ray shower development in the atmosphere. We have studied the temperature and humidity dependence of the fluorescence light spectrum excited by MeV electr...
